Manmohan Singh , Prime Minister of India - Homage to Anil Biswas

I received the news of the passing away of Comrade Anil Biswas with shock and profound sadness. Comrade Biswas was a great son of Bengal, a truly patriotic Indian and a wise leader with a modern outlook who had dedicted his life to the welfare of our people. As a student leader, a journalist and a leader of the communist movement he stood tail because of his personal integrity and simplicity. He was deeply committed to taking Bengal forward. He was a keen student of world affairs and of Indian political economy. His many columns and editorials in Ganashakti revealed a modern mind grappling with the dynamics of a fast-changing world. In that sense, he was truly a Marxist who believed in learning from reality in order to be able to change it.

In mourning the untimely passing away of Comrade Biswas, I sincerely hope that his colleagues and followers will keep his memory alive by dedication themselves to his forward-looking and progressive agenda of change and reform. We will all be serving Bengal and India well if we learn the appropriate lessons from the life and writings of Comrade Biswas. I know that both for Bengal and for the CPI(M) his loss is irreparable. However, I sincerely hope his good work and progressive ideas will continue to find wider appeal both within the communist movement and outside.

I convey my sincere condolences and profound sadness to the family, friends, comrades and followers of Comrade Biswas.
